Project Description

Small watercraft can now navigate the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, thanks to Morven Construction.

With two stormwater outlets depositing sediment into the harbour, over time this residue accumulates. The Morven team was tasked with removing these deposits.

Using environmental controls like turbidity curtains and a passive dewatering area, excavated material could dewater on site. Our team used a combination of long-reach and standard boom excavators to remove material from various locations within the harbour. To ensure seawalls were not overloaded or damaged, we used weight distributing mats.

Excavated material was placed in lined trucks and hauled to a central municipal yard for testing and contaminant analysis. Despite working in the difficult winter conditions, this project was completed within the CRCA permit time frame and one month ahead of schedule.
