Project Description

Situated on the shore of Lake Ontario, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts is a creative hub in Kingston. However, over time, the high lake water has damaged the concrete retaining wall and existing exposed banks. These areas of concern needed to be addressed before they worsened.

The Morven Construction team used a combination of new and existing rocks of various sizes to protect 91 meters of shoreline. These rocks were placed below the low lake water level to reinforce the area.

In addition, our team used shallow face, deep face and cap repair to fix 71 meters of an aging concrete retaining wall. A combination of concrete mix designs and driven concrete patch ties were used.

Once the repairs were complete, a new drainage system and splash pad were installed behind the existing retaining wall, allowing the overtopping waves to disperse and drain back into the lake. This project will help ensure the facility can safely continue for years to come.
